Jaakko Karhu

Having a background in media and technology, Jaakko is the Communications Manager of the Big Data Value Association. He started his career in broadcast journalism, working as a radio and TV host for the Finnish national broadcaster, Yle. During the years in media, he pioneered social TV in the country, bringing online comments to live debates. Following his passion for technology, Jaakko later moved to work as a web developer, first as a freelancer and later as a part of international start-up teams in Spain, France, Germany and Belgium. As a programmer, he specialised in modern JavaScript frameworks and content management systems. Drawing experience from two fields, Jaakko currently bring his communicational and technical skills for the use of the European Data and AI research and innovation community. Jaakko holds an MSc in new media and European affairs from Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
