Zohar leads the research group “Framework Conditions for Data Markets” at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society in Berlin. His current research focuses on various legal aspects of data markets and the influence of legal institutions and regulation on the data economy. The legal framework investigated includes contract law, consumer protection law, unfair competition law, and data protection law.
Zohar further specializes in intellectual property law and conducts interdisciplinary research in the area of privacy and technology, including privacy icons and data trusts as solution approaches to structural and behavioral problems related to data protection and privacy laws. Alongside his book on digital copyright law (“Access Right: The Future of Digital Copyright Law”, Oxford University Press, 2011), he has published extensively on IP, technology and data law subjects.
Previously to joining the Weizenbaum Institute, Zohar has fulfilled various rolls in legal consulting while working with start-ups and technology companies, among others. He holds a Ph.D in law from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and a Master’s degree in IP law from Cardozo Law School in New York.
